FUNDRAISING – Shoe Box Appeal

In November last year some of the wards took part in the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal.
The “Charity Link to Hope” https://linktohope.co.uk/ supports communities in Eastern Europe. One of the ways they do this is by sending out shoe boxes for families and the elderly which are packed with useful everyday items as well as toys and games for children.
We showed a short DVD during the community meetings of families and children receiving the shoe boxes from previous years, packed with goodies and it was obvious from their faces how much it meant to them. Each ward was given a list of ideas of items to collect and both staff and patients got involved. We were able to contribute 7 shoe boxes to the appeal.
Some of the patients were asked why they wanted to get involved:
“I got involved because I wanted to help people to have something they have not really had before. It would have been like Christmas and birthday all rolled into one for them. It was great to see patients and staff chip in and give stuff for the shoe boxes”. (Curtis)
“ To make a difference to people who are vulnerable and less fortunate than ourselves”. (Richard
“When we were looking in the box it was all things we took for granted and people out there would appreciate them more than we do” (Adrian)
“For people to be able to have a nice Christmas like we have” (Wayne)
