Ultimate Frisbee.
Ultimate Frisbee was developed in 1968 and is a sport that resembles basketball, netball, soccer and American football in its athletic requirements. Although predominately played in the U.S.A, the sport has increased greatly in popularity in the UK and in the clinic.
What does it involve?
Ultimate Frisbee is played by two teams with a flying disc on a pitch with end zones, similar to American football.
The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent's end zone. A player must stop running while in possession of the disc, but may pivot and pass to any of the other receivers on the field, interceptions and incomplete passes are turnovers.
Ultimate Frisbee is unique as there is no referee, which means that players take responsibility for their own behaviour. Because players make their own calls, participation develops character, self-reliance, listening and negotiating skills.
Ultimate Frisbee keeps you active and healthy!
From the beginner to the elite player, Ultimate Frisbee is a terrific sport that offers challenges at all levels of play as it combines the athletic skills of running, catching and throwing.
Many participants from other sports have found the transition to Ultimate Frisbee both easy and rewarding, as the sport requires many of the same techniques as basketball and soccer and even more running!
Ultimate Frisbee at Caswell:
Ultimate Frisbee is a new sport at Caswell and has been tried out very successfully during Sports hour on Tuesdays. Patients who have attended the group have reported that it is a fun way to improve their fitness, confidence and self esteem.
Other comments have been that it is a great activity to meet other patients and to develop teamwork skills. Ultimate Frisbee is an open group that is always welcoming new players to try it out. If you would like to try it for yourself, why not give it a go and experience it for yourself!
