My Teaching Experience at Caswell Clinic

I was asked if I would be able to come into Caswell clinic for six weeks to teach creative writing, I jumped at the chance, as this would be a new experience from teaching adolescents.

I was a little apprehensive, as to how I would keep the interest of the patients, but as it was I needn′t have worried, I was greeted with a warm welcome as soon as I arrived.

The patients really took to the Creative writing, like a duck to water, they took part without any coaxing, and in fact they were volunteering to take part.

We covered lots of different things in the six weeks, and all the patient that attended really got a lot out of it, the poems that were written were very good indeed, and when I brought in some items from home, for them to look at and write down what they thought the items reminded them of, I was very surprised by some truly brilliant answers.

I also gave out homework which they all did very well indeed, I really enjoyed the six weeks that I spent coming in to Caswell clinic, and I hope that the patients learned something, and had enjoyment out of the course.

At the end of the course all who took part received a certificate and we had a presentation, I was given a bouquet of flowers, and some chocolates by the patients, I was really touched by their kindness.

I have been asked if in the future I would be able to come back, as there are other patients who would like to do the course, I will have to see how much time I have got, but I thoroughly enjoyed doing the course, and meeting everybody and being made so welcome, thank you all very much.

Suzie

The patient′s point of view

Quite a few people surprised themselves and others when classes run by Susie tapped into the creative writing skills, the classes proved a success, and were well attended, having attended the classes myself I enjoyed them and would like to say a big thank you to Suzie

MikeF.

I found Susie to be a very professional Teacher, I have quite a lot of ideas in my mind and feel she would be ideal for me to get my thoughts from head to page; I benefited a great deal on her last session and would be very pleased for her to teach me in Creative writing again,

RichardA.

PS. We would like to thank Suzie for giving up her time voluntarily.
