Issue 15
Christmas Variety Show
The second variety show this year was held in the sports hall on the 2nd.Decemebr 2005.
What was different about it this time was that it was held at lunchtime instead of an evening performance giving the 9-5pm staff an opportunity to take part or watch the show.
The show would'nt have been the same if the usual chaos didn't take place such as equipment problems, mislaid props, everyone playing in different keys, no rehearsals, performers dropping out at the last minute or deciding to take part after all! Still that's what makes the Caswell Variety Show.
Opening the show were Beaver Fever doing their version of "Running Bear" followed By Huw and his throaty version of "Leroy Brown" (as he had lost his voice in the morning). Mississippi Mike with "Living Doll" without his co star "Loopy Loo" (watch out for Mike's album in the new year).Andy "Mr Piano Man" faultless piano playing (self taught) and amusing jokes. Our "Big Spender" Jo, doing Birley Chassis like no one else could do, also her interpretation of Margarita Pracitan's "There's A No Business Like A Show Business" back in the show by public demand. "Rapper Paul" performing his self penned rap like a true professional.
OTT gave a first class performance as usual adapting Roald Dahl's "Little Red Riding Hood" for the stage.
After the interval we had Aaron and his African Drumming Group each performer giving their well rehearsed solos in turn.
The Mississippi Mud Slingers plus guests giving their usual unrehearsed, chaotic performance (we must start rehearsing). I'm sure Frankie Laine would have been very impressed with their version of "Rawhide"!
Heather (Flute) and Paul (Keyboards) impressed the audience with Christmas songs and carols where everyone joined in to sing.
Finally, Mags hosting a show for the very first time, continually ad libbing as her script had become pointless after the first act!
