Memories of Homelessness

I drank my whiskey in a park
On a freezing winter's day
The cold that wrapped me in its arms
I quite soon drank away.

I raised myself walked to the lake
The surface frozen too
I dropped a large stone through the ice
For something to do.

My whiskey almost gone, I moved
Towards the lights of shops and town
I was a beggar and a tramp
And walked with my head down

The lights and bustle after peace
The many contrasts of the day
The people, their disgusted stares,
I quite soon drunk away
